Built in 1888 as a hunting lodge for the Austrian imperial family, the residence is a true testimony to history, art and culture. Enlarged in 1903 to accommodate a growing international clientele, it soon became a landmark for the European aristocracy. After being damaged during the two world wars, it was restored in 1948, regaining its original splendour and being classified as a 5-star luxury Grand Hotel. Since 1989, it has been officially recognised as an Italian National Heritage Site.
