An Architecture That Speaks of History The hotel traces its roots back to 1300, when it housed the Hospitium Magnum, later becoming the Osteria Grande, expanded in 1765 into what was once the renowned Locanda Grande. Its rooms have welcomed legendary figures such as Admiral Nelson, Lady Hamilton, Queen Maria Carolina of Naples, Johann Winckelmann, and Emperors Joseph II and Leopold II. Today, its majestic restored façade reflects all the nobility of the past: Corinthian pilasters, floral friezes, allegorical statues of Mercury and Trieste, all restored to their former splendour thanks to a valuable conservative intervention.
